Like most things in 2020, there was no gentle transition into Fall this year. We seemingly went from iced coffee to pumpkin spiced everything overnight. In the fruit world, our farm share went from peaches to pears, and my routine breakfast of peach smoothie was forced to change.
Now, I don't know how much you google "smoothies," (almost daily - just me? Cool...) but TASTY pear smoothies can be a bit hard to find. I guess no one is really looking for a cool and refreshing smoothie when pear weather rolls around.
So, in the spirit of the upcoming season, I "Frankenstein"-ed a pear smoothie together and you know what? It's pretty dang good!
Please enjoy (Serves 2):
1 banana
2 pears
2 cups spinach
2 Tbs ground flax seed
2 Tbs maple syrup
1/4 cup sunbutter
2 cups milk of your choice (I like almond)
This smoothie can gluten-free, dairy-free, or nut-free depending on the combinations of ingredients you use. I'm sure you could sub almond butter for sunbutter or use cow's milk (or even water), but the above combination is what works for me.
Let me know how you like it! What else are you doing with pears this time of year?
